    Default OUCH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not much of a fishing report. Only got to fish 1 hr. Caught 6 smallies with the largest at 17". This is how she thanked me. I cut the hook off in the ER parking lot by myself. Doc said good call because he had no tools to do that.

Yes...OUCH. Been there...done that. I feel your pain...actually I guess YOU feel YOUR pain. I can empathize, though.

For me, the best way to remove a hook is the "Loop & Snatch" method of getting embedded hook or hooks (in case two of the three barbs of a treble). I just take a piece of mono and loop it around the bend of the hook that's embedded, press down on the shank toward the skin and jerk. Works the same way if two of the barbs of a treble are embedded. Absolutely no pain and very easy to do plus you can keep on fishing after "the operation" - no need to visit an ER.

I've used this method dozens of times on myself and others - even a dog's lip one time. Most hooks were 3/0 or smaller - one 6/0 at the beach. On a multi hook lure, I just wrap the extra treble with duck tape or tie it to the lure with the bends pointing toward the direction of the pull.

Since I've had to do this a number of times, I ended up taking some parachute cord, formed a loop, then putt both loose ends through a hole in the middle of a short piece of broom handle, tying each of the loose ends into knots so they wouldn't come back through the hole. Have used that once since making it and it works like a charm.

The only problem with this video is that they failed to press down on the shank of the hook (this is necessary to create a "channel" for the barb to pass through without contacting the skin on exit). Otherwise, it's pretty good at showing the technique.

Another for the jerk method. Used it 3 or 4 times on myself in the last couple years.

Flailing fish and multiple treble hooks always worry me.

    Hey turkey,
Been there, done that, got the shirt. Buggy whip rods and tiny torpedos make bad combos.
