In regards to a Coosa seat there are web straps under the bottom that can be tightened or loosened up to custom fit it to your behind. Just some info. Looks like a nice boat but the open deck wouldn't work good for myself because of the camping gear I normally haul. I like it secured in the boat not on the boat. I'd like to paddle one to see how that goes but hey its a Native and they make good stuff

The 12 footer looks as if its backwards. The rear of the boat is more narrow than the front.

That image is a computer designed image...not an actual photo of the real boats.
When they designed this boat, they did get input from all of their guides and paddlers on Facebook and the Native Owners Group. They came up with some prototypes, let the guides paddle them...and then sent them back to the drawing board...and they did have some major changes done to them after the guides paddled them.
No one can deny how popular the Ultimate is...and it is a totally open boat, but as we all know on this river fishing forum...it doesn't drain. On the forum threads that asked for input, many people suggested to revamp the old Native Magic since it was a SOT that was for the most part totally open. And lots said they needed a true river boat so it had to be self draining...not a revamped Coupe. All said it had to be stable enough to stand in. Considering that most owners have Ultimates and the accessories that go along with the Ultimates like the sized bags, it makes sense to have the new boat be a self bailing SOT that can use the same bags. So we can start to see where Native came up with the design. If you want a closed deck SOT, they have the Redfish and the Manta Ray...but now this Slayer offering gives us an open deck SOT and we'll still be able to stand in it. The bottom is certainly refined from what the Coupe and Versa offer...it isn't going to be a tunnel hull like the Ultimate...but more like the tri-hull design of the Versa with a much cleaner entry, and that is where the comparison was...the basic design. As far as the seat goes, we all knew about Native's high/low offering way back when...the seat riser...and most of us opted for not buying an expensive piece of plastic when we could build close to the same out of PVC....so the high/low wasn't a new thing...but Drew sure as heck did brilliantly refine that offering! Now the new Native boat will slightly refine it a bit more.
Woody knows from Liquid Logic how to build a great river runner and they already knew how to build a longer cruiser...they are basically leaving the rest up to us to outfit to our liking and have enough Groove Tracks on the new boats to let us put anything and everything where we want them. And as far as packing camping gear, I've loaded canoes and I've loaded sea kayaks for numerous week long trips. I'll take loading my gear in a dry bag where I can haul it all at once to the boat or camp spot any day over having to bend over and hand load piece by piece into a small opening in my hull and then have some things slide and get stuck somewhere inside my hull where I can't get to them. So think about it... if you like the Ultimate and its openess but want a hull designed for running rivers and be self draining...this 12 foot Slayer may be for you...if you fish open water, the 14 footer coming later this fall will be the ticket.

The idea when loading the boat down for a couple of days is to use the drybags and pack them in the hull. Using the hull keeps the center of gravity lower and more balanced, when you pile it up high it changes the center of balance. That's the reason most boats (even sot's) with weekend trips in mind provide access to the hull.

Looks like its a hit for current ultimate owners. It seems by what I have been reading that the boat was designed to give current native owners another boat selection. I say this because most of the feed back I have seen puts emphasis that the design was what native owners wanted.

Im not a current native owner but It looks like a nice boat, and Ican't wait to try one out and put the 12 foot river runner thru its paces on a few class III shoals. I didn't see a rapid rating on the river runner, do you know if they rated it?

I don't know what the rating is yet. I'm hoping it is going to be a lot...like the Ride115...but that is really wishful thinking. I'm 265 and I think the U14.5 is a bit over-rated. It will float a load but will get you in trouble quick in any kind of seas. Woody is about my size and he said it would haul him and 50 pounds of gear with no problems...so we'll see.

The class rating I was referring to was the Class water it's rated for (ie rapids). For example I believe the Coosa is rated for up to class III. I'm not sure if the ride is rated or not. The weight capacity should be adequate I would think. Most boats recently have higher weight capacities it seems.

Retailers are taking pre-orders now. Retail for the 14 footer is going for $1279 and the 12 footer for $1179. Once it gets here...I bet the prices of the Coosa and Cuda will drop a bit and then the price wars will start...I hope!

Why would the prices drop? If referring to these two boats, the coosa and cuda are less expensive already. If anything it helps solidify that price range. Has anyone been able to find out what kind of water the 12 ft is rated for. Hopefully they put it out at some point. I know there are more than a few ppl that run some whitewater to get to a few fishing spots.

Why did certain competitive Wilderness Systems boats drop 15% today when the Slayer went on the market for pre-orders?

Probably clearing out the left over 2012's if I had to guess, I wouldn't think it had anything to do with the native boat but who knows. A lot of the boats are going on sale prior to outdoor retailer. People tend to wait to see the new models that hit the net after OR and that leaves some ppl with a bunch of boats for the rest of the season. I'm sure the JK prices will remain the same. Sometimes other non JK manufacturers offer sales on models that didn't sell very well thru the season as well. With the exception of the battery box I don't see anything that new and innovative that would set the industry on its nose and warrant a fire sale.

That Is my own personal view since I have no clue what the sales figures or marketing people see.

I would think prices will remain stable, if not rise. Raw material prices, especially plastics, are directly related to the cost of oil.
