now i know that ol lowhybred and shoaltide, etc, etc have got me beat by a long shot but i was so satisfied after this day that i may not ever going fishing again....HA!! yeah right.
took ol Cletus T (mainly hangs out on Woody's (GON) forum...Country Fried Cletus) out this past sunday after church for an evening float...without a doubt the WORST day of riverbassin on my home waters that i've ever had. i hated that his first major shoalie float was so crappy...and he lost three rods which REALLY sucked. however he caught his first shoalie and we even got it on film...sweet. check out the link:
headed back up there on tuesday morning right at daylight and did a half day float in hopes of finding some stripers and good shoalies...and a rod or two or three for ol Cletus...didn't find any of those. well, one shoalie that was pushin 2lbs but the fishing was still very poor even though i caught 10 or so.
woke up wednesday with big plans to get some work done around the house but the overcast skies and excellent water clarity and level on the river had me salivating profusely...and i just couldnt' even begin to resist. so, with a couple of errands under my belt i made it to the river at lunch and spent the next four hours catching BEAST shoalies...well, beasts for me anyhow.
i've landed a couple of 4lbers in the past on my home flow, but my best days have consisted of a handful of 3+lbers. this day surpassed them all...this is why we fish...for that ONE day that it all comes together...right weather, water, lures, and place...and the Good Lord looking down on ya....BOO-YAH...it's on!
been wanting to do a float upriver to this set of shoals i found on google earth for a while now...made it up there last week but the water was too high and stained to do any good...did land one 4lbr though but at a different set of shoals. after seeing this particular set of shoals that day i figured that they would hold some good fish but never realized how good and how many!
caught all these within 150 yards of raging river...needless to say the bigger fish were out and eating...best day i've ever had on the river...three shoalies over 4lbs...three over 3.5lbs...and three over 2lbs...and three or four 1lbrs...wish i could've stayed longer...and wish ol Cletus had of been with me on this day! other than my PB shoalie...the added icing on the cake was the 4.5lber i caught after i had fished on upriver to the next set of shoals...without much luck...and on my way back down i tossed out into the hole where the three big fish were chasing my BS and cauhgt another big girl...probably one of the ones i had seen chasing the BS around. then i stuck a 3.5lber at the very last hole and headed home just as full as a tick on shoalie action
all caught slow-rollin the 5inch bull shad...tossing in the rapids and letting it glide down to where the big boys play. at one time i had THREE 4+lbers chasing my bull shad around...all right in front of me...luckily the biggest of the three grabbed it...my PB shoalie and river bass...and oh how she put on a show...just awesome. and you should of seen the kiss i gave that ol girl!! put ol what's his name to shame
i'd love to tell every play-by-play moment...i can recall each fish...but it'd just take too long so enjoy the pics...i know i enjoyed catching em!
btw...think i'll head up to this set of shoals in the fall and early spring to see if one of those big girls fattens up so i can break the 5lb mark!
