jaw doesn't extend past the eye (as a largemouth has) in the first pic ...and there are lateral lines below the lateral line...indicative of a spotted bass...only if we knew if it had a tooth patch...not intending to run in circles but I believe it's either a washed out Spot or a meanmouth...

LMB do not mind a little whitewater. I know of at least four flows in the NC Piedmont that have gradient reaching 20-30 fpm which is much steeper than the Little @ Marysville that are chock full of hungry crawdad eating lmb. It must be the crawdad meat that turns the eyes red.

Look like spots to me. The big thing is it doesn't appear that the jaw extends past the eye.

Looks like a "rock bass" or "red-eye bass", also known as the Coosa. I catch them all the time in the smaller rivers, aggressive little dudes. Fun to catch!

One of the signature indicators for the red-eye bass is white tips on the fins. You can see them in the photo from the link you posted. The fins however on the original post do not show these white tips...

Now that I'm looking at those on the computer and not my iphone, I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that both of those are Kentucky/Northern Spotted Bass.

I'm gonna say spots too. I've fished Little River from Townsend to Maryville and caught many spots from that area. There are LM a plenty as well.

well redheron is a fish ID genius so i would probably go with his expert opinion.

and LMs can run up through shoals no problem...and they can have redeyes...as can shoalies and spots
Give a man a fish...he'll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish...his wife won't see him much.
