Had am hour or 2 this morning before my daughters soccer game and decided to go hit a river and bank fish. I was hoping to find a big striper, and had one big swirl on a Storm Kickin' Stick but no hookup. It feels weird for me to do a report not for Stripers, but no luck today with them, so went with plan B.
When I saw that the Stripers were not going to cooperate I switched to a small shallow running crankbait and tried to catch a bass or 2, with much better luck. First cast with the little crankbait I got Largemouth that went about 8... That's inches though fellas, not pounds...Then I lost what I think was a Spotted bass but might have been a LM, but it threw the lure about 10 feet from me (also not very big but a little better at probably 1 1/2 lb range). Moved up above a good rapid and my luck changed for the better and got a pretty nice Shoal Bass that was in the 2-3 lb range and fought like a champ. Released it after a couple quick photos to get bigger and hopefully catch next year. Here is a couple photos of the Shoalie, and it was a beautiful morning to be on the river...
