Default I figure it's time for an introduction

I have been lurking around on here for a bit and thought it was time to finally introduce myslef. This is a great website, full of good information and photos. Up until last fathers day my paddle fishing had been from a pirogue, but my kids gave me a kayak and ruined me! I haven't had it a year and I am ready to upgrade. I mainly fish bayous, ponds and slow rivers but I am now itching to get out in the marsh in a kayak. I have pretty much settled on a Jackson kayak, but I am having a tuff time choosing between a Coosa or a Cuda. I am looking for a kayak that will meet both of these needs. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Welcome to the site!

I grew up in WV but it has been a long time. Do your research on the New River and the Greenbriar River. I know there are smallmouth but there are also some big ole whoop tee doos too. Good luck.

Sure do its in the same county, summers county. We have the new river, greenbrier and bluestone rivers here. I live about 10 miles from pipestem resort. All three rivers have a good population of smallmouth but the new river is epic you owe it to yourself to try and fish it. In a few weeks could be some of the best fishing of the year for big smallies if it ever quits raining. The rivers right now are high and muddy from tons of rain. PM me if you want info i fish all three rivers and know them well. How long are you staying we might be able to hookup and float the new. Rodeo clown is right the new river has some mean water but i have some floats that are mild. We have had a mild winter but you never know in two weeks we might have a foot of snow and minus 13 temps.

Welcome. If you are sold on one of those two boats I'd choose the Cuda if you planning to continue fishing slow flat water. I love my Coosa because it is mainly pointed downstream in medium to fast water and slides well through the shoals with its short length. But it isn't fast on flat water and it will tend to catch the wind on wide open water. Test them and other brands out before you buy. If you are upgrading you don't want to end up disappointed because you bought the wrong boat for the wrong water.

    welcome aboard.

sounds to me like you oughta go with the cuda if you are going with jackson kayaks. always a REALLY good idea to test drive some different rides and see how they feel to you, though.

    good luck

With a name like "Nutriarat" you have to be from Louisiana! Welcome aboard! Glad to see someone from my neck of the swamp (Ponchatoula) on the River Bassin forum. Lets go hit a river?

Nutriarat, you an' Bayou Shoal have brought me back to my college years when I was at LSU (or should've been at LSU). I cut classes on more than one occasion to geaux fishin' down 'round Bayou Manchac. I always enjoyed seeing that sign up by the side of the road that ran beneath I-55: "IF YOU LIVED IN PONCHATOULA, YOU WOULD BE HOME NOW."

I used to LOVE fishin' off the side of the road back in there. Mostly we caught gaspergoo, but there were always a few bass to ease out pain. Had one ol' coon-ass that ran a bait shop there tell us that if we weren't loading up on catfish we were wasting our time, 'cause catfish are the only fish that matter. (I guess he'd never hit Bayou Sorrel for sac-au-lait, huh?)

Man! Y'all are making me homesick for my adopted state!
Shocking new discovery today. . . Merlot is not a good mixer for gin!
