    Default Floats near Prattville, AL

I am looking at the following places on google maps as possible floats around Montgomery.

    Mulberry Creek
    Coosa below Jordan Dam
    Catoma Creek
    Alabama River at Cooter's Pond
Alabama River at Swift Creek park

anybody give any insight into any of these? Also, if anybody lives close, I am game to go after tax season is over.

Be careful on the Coosa. There are some nice big rapids down there. But, there are also some nice BIG spots in that flow.

I think there are some calm spots to fish there with light rapids. I would not go thru Moccasin Gap, etc. Aren't those like class 3 rapids or higher?

There is tons of fishable water and its all flat below Corn Creek. The river is fast during releases, but you should be able to avoid the big stuff. Wear the PFD and take a buddy. If you find yourself seperated from your boat, you aren't likely to catch it. If you put in below the dam, without a release, you can paddle around in the flat water all day.

    What kreekn said.
Never heard of anybody fishing them, but I did some scouting on Mulberry and Catoma a couple years ago. If I recall, access was an issue on Mulberry. Catoma had a couple accessible areas. I think there may have been access at 31 and 331, and difficult access at Old Selma Rd. There's a pretty significant waterfall at the end of Haynesville Rd where the creek falls down into a clayrock canyon. I think fossil hunters frequent the area. I found a couple urchin fossils while I was there. It's pretty rare to see a waterfall that size below the fall line.

yeah, when researching Catoma Creek, I ended up on an amateur fossil hunter forum. Google maps is your friend. There is also a new place opened up called Jenkins Creek that is a good float but they charge you a portage fee. I think it is on the tallapoosa below lake martin though.
