    Default New 8wt Outfit

I've been wanting a new 8wt setup for awhile now and had some extra rewards for Cabelas. Wasn't looking to blow out the bank but wanted to get something decent. Tried out a lot of different rods but finally decided on the TFO BVK. I have other TFO's and think they are about the best rod for the money. The BVK is really light and has great action. Plus, like all TFO's, its backed by a great warranty.

For the reel I went with the Cabelas WLX. Made by Lamson and the reviews are great, plus it pairs well with the BVK. I've got it spooled up and ready to go. Now I just need some time to go fishing.

Probably wont get to use it until late March early April when I will be heading to Charleston a couple of times. Hopefully I will get to use it on the river soon too. I will let you all know how it handles.

TFO makes a great product. I fish a TFO Clouser 8wt. and would like to get a BVK in the 6wt. I was in Charleston last year for a vacation. Did not get any fishing in but took a trip out to the lighthouse through the bay behind Folly beach. saw lots of dolphins and redfish. next time I plan on hiring a guide for some fishing.

Sounds like a nice setup. I'm a TFO fan myself, I have the Professional II 5 wt.
The warranty was the main reason I bought one. Face it, fly fishing out of a kayak - things happen and rods are going to get broke.

Troutman, I know a great kayak guide down in Charleston. Let me know and I will pass on his info, the man will put you on fish! Best to take some standard tackle to put out bait. Or depending on your quest, you could also chase tailing reds in the reeds.

    Nice rig, basshead!
My main smallie rod is a TFO TiCr-X 7'6" 6wt. Its a cannon.
I'm wanting to try out a BVK as well in the future (especially in a trout rod size).

My decision ended up being between the BVK and the TiCr-X. Both awesome rods but the BVK was a little lighter. I'll see how the BVK does and let you know.

Finally got a chance to use the new setup and it was great. It casts nice and for an 8wt, light enough not to kill you after being on the water all day. Unfortunately, the fishing was slow, so I didn't gt to test it on any good sized fish. Next time!?!

Depends on what you're fishing for but I would go 7 wt for bass. Imo
