Default A Fly Fishing Outing in Pictures

I hiked in along a roadbed, but quickly came to this

That didn't stop me...I quickly climbed down and out the wash out.

    I hiked a mile through this and more....it wasn't bad....just itchy

Eventually the trail turned to this

After awhile I made it to the river

Putting my cheap combo to use I caught this.....my first fly rod fish in years

I thought I was good and had things down pat but I was quickly humbled

I looked into my pouch and chose something new

I decided on this - Sam's 'Big Muddy'

Which helped me catch this...my first bass on the fly in years

That led to a 'hero' pose

I was quickly humbled again when my fly landed here

Don't pull too hard because this can happen (I would have been toast had this tree been bigger)

Things started to get hot and blurry next. I spent the next hour doing this off and on.

It's hot out there. Be careful. I wasn't out there long and I almost ended up in the hospital and probably should have gone to the hospital. It was a very scary experience that I do not wish to relive. I'm glad I'm still here to be able to share this post with y'all.

the heat 'round here recently is NO JOKE... I was planning to go out fishing on SAT here locally, but am seriously reconsidering it if the temp doesn't drop 5-10 degrees. Weatherman says that ain't gonna happen, so I guess I'll only be doing a half-day trip if I go at all.

beautiful fish by the way.... did you take those pics with your GO PRO? must have been with the one pic half in the water.

I'm putting one of those on my Christmas wish list !

Hey Bruiser, I recently read your report on those new aqua shoes from your website; how are they working out for ya? I recently replaced my pair of Teva closed-toe sandals, but still don't like little "things" crawling into my shoes when I'm wade fishing... I'm thinking some full cover shoes (like those aquas) would be better $$$ spent next time my footwear needs replacing...

    Nice Bruiser!
Scary stuff about the heat symptoms.
Glad you had the sense to take a good soak.

Congrats on the nice catch. Glad you're OK. The FedEx delivery person just happened to leave an entry level TFO outfit, on my front porch, this evening. Woohoo!!

Glad you are ok!!! I only laugh because this is like most of my trips......Good to know I'm not alone..Lol. My last trip I had a smallmouth HOOK ME in the thumb to the BONE and all I could think about were the video from paw paw and post by ol feller about hook removal, but I DID NOT PREPARE!! It was really painfull when I YANKED it out with needle nose pliers but I'm ready for next time.....

Nice write-up and pics. Glad the heat didn't get the best of you!

Those Reddington's are solid for the money. You should be able to beat the snot out of it for awhile and still be good.

Excellent post! Be careful, you are showing signs of turning to the Dark Side!

Good warning about overheating. Years ago I worked in manufacturing for a heat treatment shop where we have lots of big furnaces. One summer night I passed out. After several glasses of water and some salt tablets I was OK but it took a while.

Way to get a bass on the fly. Glad you didn't have a heat stroke. I got so dehydrated on one trip this summer I got nauseous and yakked. Since then I have been wearing a camel bak and drinking water the entire time I fish. You can still put in long days on the river as long as you stay hydrated and go swimming.
