May head up this weekend. I'll post if I do any good.
finstalker,
Really, really, really hope you do better than we did on our last trip to the New. Looking forward to your post.
If it wasn't for some previous commitments I would definitely be there with you.

Gone fishing, be back at dark thirty
We do have unfinished business up there now don't we? Depending on weather I might be up for a day trip. How far down river you going finstalker?
Long may you run
The New can be VERY tough to yak fish in April because of serious level fluxuations from AEP's dam at Claytor Lake. Not impossible, but very challenging as water levels can change rapidly. Later is more consistent than early in the month, but any day can have a flurry of big fish bites if you time the rise in water level right, and get off before it totally spikes. New River smallies are very tuned into the river level variations.

Thanks for the info BMP. Will you be attending the James River rodeo in April? I have not fished the Radford area as it is a little out of my range for a day trip. I can get up river of Claytor.
Long may you run
anyone know the water temp there
Mike, If the weather cooperates it will be around Foster Falls or Austinville.

Claytor Dam (usually has no gates open)
Little River Dam
A put in below the Dam, the water is usually WELLbelow the orange sign..
