Default Anyone fish for stripes in KY?

Just wondering if there are any KY striper fisherman on here. One of my goals last year was to tangle with a decent sized striper...didnt happen unfortunately. I do live about 45 minutes from one of the dams on the Ohio river but for some reason or another I havent caught one yet. Hopefully this will be the year!

I have never fished that far up, though I spent a good bit of time in Cincinnati in my younger days and was stationed at Ft Knox for a couple years many moons ago. If you have a Kayak or canoe, if I were you I would try up the Miami river or any other river that feeds the Ohio. The deeper holes right below the first serious rapids will probably have stripes/hybrids stacked up in May/June and possibly some already in April. Plus you won't have so many other fishermen around as at the big dams. Hope you get one this year.

i'd follow Dirk's advice to a tee, bnt55...he's THE MAN when it comes to stripers
Give a man a fish...he'll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish...his wife won't see him much.

I will definitely do that! my 19 ft jon boat wont make it more a mile or 2 up the miami, but I got a jetski this year that while being a piece of crap will get me as far as I want to go up the Miami. I am going to put my kayak milk crate on the back and head up there in the spring! yes I will look like a complete tool doing it but if I land a striper who cares? Since I will be strapped for space on the ski what should I take to catch the big boys that are in there bait/lure wise? I can net some shad more than likely but would a lure work just as well? Thanks for the tips.

the jetski sounds like a great plan.

i just started fishin for stripers on my home waters last year. i found that tossin magnum flukes up into the rapids and lettin the current take it down works pretty good. topwater like spooks and sammys work great, too. all that for early morning or late evening and sometimes when it's real cloudy during the day. if they won't come to the surface to play, i love throwin a pompano jig (bucktail jigs will work also) with a paddle tail trailer. i just toss it out and burn it through an eddy or the along a seam below some rapids....hold on cause when they hit it, they smash it! seems as though any shad style swimbaits work good. Dirk has been gracious enough to post some great pics of his modified striper baits. do a search for stripers and find Dirk's older posts. of course, live bait will work well but i'm not sure about how to set up the presentation.

BTW....love your sig line! that's hilarious.
