I would imagine that you’re probably saying “Do What”! What in the heck is “S.B.E.D.” syndrome? No, SBED is not the name of some running back for the University of Alabama. However, I’m sure all River Bassin members have it!
This is the time of the year where we get deprived of our weekly visits to pursue shoal bass. Largely due to the more than numerous frigid weather fronts that keep blasting in from Yankee Land up north. The doldrums of winter have furiously swept across our fishing waters shutting us down and causing a mass epidemic of cabin fever and even worse, the dreaded “S.B.E.D.” syndrome throughout our ranks.
No, fellow River Bassers, I’m not referring to erectile dysfunction! I’m talking about “Shoal Bass Extraction Disorder”. This terrible disorder plagues all of us every winter when this serious condition denies us from catching shoal bass or any other bass.
I have tried in vain over this winter to keep the effects of this disorder manageable by going out and wetting a jig or two. Haven’t had much success, dang! However, my old buddy Shoal Tide did get on the scoreboard during the first week of January. He managed to catch a couple nice shoalies with a jig.
I pity the person who has to fish in the back of Shoal Tide’s boat when he’s working cover with a jig. I swear, that boy is more methodical and thorough picking cover apart with a jig then your dental hygienist picking debris out of your teeth during your semi-annual teeth cleaning.
I’m just curious; does anyone have any positive stories or ailments for this disorder? As for me, this down time has had a positive effect on my bassdonitis in my right elbow. I got a bad case of tendonitis early last spring during my pursuit of “Big Sampson”. Who’s “Big Sampson”? Only the biggest baddest bass to swim our waters, that’s who!
That story will have to wait for another post…
Oh, almost forgot, this is a shout out to Basserdrew: Post more videos, I have watched them all! That definitely helps to ward off “S.BE.D.”.
Shoal Tide with a nice January Shoal Bass!
