Very Cool! Welcome to the site!
Seriously? Arizona? I've been hoping just one day we'd see an Arizona trip. Welcome aboard and thanks for posting your trip. Beautiful pics.
Now here's what's got me. Those look like Redeyes that we have here in the east. Are they transplants, native, or something else altogether. I had no idea Redeyes were found west of the Mississippi.
Arizona river bassin' looks awesome to me! Beautifull river.
Long may you run
Welcome Kickbass. My son lives in Mesa and I plan on going out this spring to fish the Black River. Any pointers? Thanks Terry
Awesome scenery..Thanks for sharing. Some of those bass do look like our beloved Red eyes we have
out here..I would like to hear more about them and where you are fishing.
Welcome to the site and hope to see some more post from you.
The Black River in incredible! The main problem is in the logistics as it lies smack in the middle of the Apache Reservation and requires a daily $30 permit. I would also recommend a 4wheel drive or a vehicle with heavy duty tires. It is very remote and you will have to bring everything you might want or need. That aside it is well worth the effort.
Unless there is some black bass species yet unknown to science, those are what appear to be redeye bass. Strange how they got transplanted that far away.
I was thinking the same thing, most definitely red eye bass. The water looks like the kind that holds them though, crystal clear river water.
Craig has a BaJa set up on a Dodge 2500 coal burner with 37's so we can get just about anywhere and he loves camping in the High Desert. Most of the info I found about it was from this site. http://blackriveraz.com/home.html
Thats what got me there. If you coming from the Phoenix area I think it may be easier to get to some less problematic areas and also investigate the salt river. I ll have to look at a map and the guide(the down loadable one from the site).
In your sons rig you won't even notice a bump in the road. I took my wifes toyota matrix during the monsoon season and had to straddle a few small ruts and crawl over some rocks. I think it was about 10 - 15 miles of gravel some of it slightly wider than the car and switch backs to get to where we went.. We only fished for a couple of hours threatning rain and lightning sent us home. Will definitely go back this year in my truck.
Yeah, those are absolutely redeyes. I wonder how they got there? A little far for the local bucket brigade I would think!

That is wild that they are so far away. But nature does some amazing things sometimes, or someone put them there and well, that still is pretty amazing.
They have been stocked in CA, but until now, I had not heard a breath of rumor about them being in AZ. Supposed to be some good smallmouth fishing NE of there near Pinetop.
