    Default new river

Well the time is almost upon me to take my much anticipated trip to West Virginia and see an old army buddy, who by the way has a camper on the greenbrier about 5 miles before it runs into the new. We are planning a weekend of fishing and remembering old times. I know this isn't really a KY post but I couldn't resist telling you guys about my trip. I just hope the weather holds. I will let ya'll know how it turns out. Wish me luck

Be sure to hit the big grass flats below the Bluestone Dam. I have done really well with buzzbaits and flukes. You can spend a whole day just cruising around. Terry

little report here for anyone thats going to new river. I put in on Friday below bluestone **** and floated down. I caught 410-12 inch smallies all on tubes or crawbugs. I had been told my my friend that just the week before I got there a 21 incher had been caught right where we were on a spinnerbait. None of us caught anything like that and I was fishing with 2 guys who live there and fish it regular. By the way all fish were caught in 1-2ft of water no fish caught either friday or saturday were caught in deeper water. I caught my biggest fish on Saturday morning on the greenbrier river (17 inch) we put in at a local access called barger springs I think. Saturday evening was more of the same n the new except we put in at a place called meadow creek. This was much bigger water and more dangerous than below bluestone. I would advise caution to anyone fishing this piece of water in asit on top kayak or a less experienced kayaker, big whirpools and rocks the size of cars abound in this area but sadly none of us caught more than 4 fish and no size to them. The one guy knows the water really well and was telling me to throw here and there and telling me about the 3 to 5lb bass he had caught off of this spot or that one the order for the day here was buzzbaits and a floating rappalla still in shallow water. All in all it was a great weekend spent with a friend I haven't seen in 19 years and some beautiful country. I look foward to another trip later this year I hope and some better fish.

I just spent the last 4 days in the New River Valley and have to admit, that valley and its river has some of the most spectacular views I've seen on the east coast. I now understand why people are attracted to the area and those who live there want to preserve the valley's pristine beauty.

George, I think you came down with Pete this past Friday.

Big-D and I were supposed to tag along, but I ended up with a mandatory meeting at work at 4pm, and they gave me the option to work an early morning shift until the meeting, so I just took the money...they already ruined my scheduled day off, so why wouldn't I?

I hope the trip ended well with you guys catching something big. I haven't been able to get a fish over 18" all year.
I'm gonna start carp fishing if it keeps up. May have to invest in a fly rod and some streamers

    Patrick - take the $$.

    Pete put the trip together.

One of the guys caught a 19" that was just shy of a c and an 18.

My biggest was 15". I was out of my game, needed time away to recover from some bad family news. For me, it was good just being away from the computer, phone, and on the water with some great guys. I did have a musky hit a spinnerbait and 'steal' the big willow blade.

Fly rodders in our group got good numbers, but nothing big. One of them had a rock bass on the line and a musky came up and took a wack at it.
