the macon tourney this past weekend was great, thru and thru. it was a first-time tourney for three of us and we had a very memorable time participating in the fun!
three of us made a float trip -- we put in around 6:15a-ish and got off the river around 3:00p. the water was clear and not as stained as i had expected, esp with the scattered t-storms the night before -- perhaps the storms didnt make it to that stretch of the river or maybe the oc clears up quicker than, say, the hooch?
i worked endlessly a weightless t-rig yamamoto senko against banks, underneath trees, infront of rapids, behind rapids, dead pools -- just letting it sink, working it slow and twitching it a few till i felt the tap-tap. i didnt catch anything significant seeing on here what big fish there are in that stretch of the river, but i continued to press on, paddle, fish, press on, paddle, fish...
i landed several dinks and a couple fair sizes, but the bite was tough all day for me and i just had to string anything over 10-inches. them dinks fight MEAN! i need me some gorilla glue to fix all my senkos they ripped apart![]()
my top three came out at 15.25 + 14 + 13.5 = 42.75.
i was telling my wife & friends before the award ceremony that i was certain i didnt place. the river has some big fish and i was convinced my top 3 werent enough to make the cut. as drew moved into the casual div in his award presentation...what? my name on the screen? what?to my surpise i managed to place 2nd in the casual div -- thanks to my wife & friends for believing!
to drew, the team and volunteers that made this whole tournament possible, thank you for making this noob's first tournament a great and memorable one!
the three bass who succombed to the senko won me a goody bag and made me one of the first to win the much anticipated, much coveted RIVER BASSIN ROD!cant wait to test it out!
