At the last minute, RedHook (my youngest son) and I grabbed our gear and decided to do a late evening wade. I looked at the weather radar and it appeared some rain was coming, so we wanted to see if the fish would get active. After all, it is only fishermen who want to be at their favorite 'hole' when the weather makes a change!
He took conventional tackle and I grabbed the fly rod! The weather is still brutal, but the scenery is cool! Only got my hand on one fish--a Kentucky Spot! RedHook missed three on a tiny torpedo. We did not wade very long and the fish were not biting, but I hope you enjoy the nature shots!
Here's RedHook getting into the stream. I accused him of having on hunter orange in case a gator got after us and the rescue party needed help finding us!!
Had several spots following my lures, but this was the only one to take it! I got him on a 'Red Belly Crease Fly' I tied last week. He put up a great fight with a multi jump show and several bulldog runs! I thought he was going to be larger the way he fought, but he was just shy of the 1 lb mark as he came in at 14 oz. on the scale.
I caught him in the push water above this section. This is looking down stream and I am standing in the edge of the push water.
Here are the nature shots!
Saw several of these friendly buddies as they followed us up the stream.
Here is an interesting stream running into the main body of water. It had it's own pool with some interesting caves cut out.
I love being outdoors enjoying God's creation and spending time with RedHook. That in itself, makes the effort worth it---fish or no fish!
