Default Spring Smallie trip to East Tennessee

I was looking to plan a spring trip to East Tennessee in late May early April for some smallmouth fishing. I have read and researched about the Holston and French broad, but would like to hit up some smaller creeks and rivers while im there as well. Any advice about any moving water including the FB and Holston would be appreciated. Thanks

The French Broad and Holston have some terrific smallmouth fishing in them, as do most of the rivers in E TN. These two, plus the Pigeon, Little, and Little Pigeon rivers (confusing, I know) probably have the best quality fish. Access to these is pretty good, but may be hard to find on the smaller creeks. Also the Clinch may be worth looking in to. The Holston, Pigeon, French Broad, and Clinch have all been impounded, so check the generation schedule before you go. 2+ generators can make the tailwaters unfishable. The fish will be in prespawn, and some big fish can be caught. Right now the smallies have not moved onto shoals. They should be on south-facing banks that warm quickly.

Add Nolichucky to Mick_T list too.

Not a whole lot of small creeks in East TN due to topography. Pretty much tiny creeks drop off the mountains and when they make it to the valley, they then all join up all at once and go from small creek to big river really quick.

Let us know the dates you're coming so we can keep an eye out for you. With all the rain and cold weather this winter, fishng and water temps are about two weeks behind right now. We had the 12th coldest on record for Knoxville.
