Hit the Kings River off Hwy 62 on Saturday afternoon from about 13:00 till 16:30. The water looked better than I had ever seen it. It rained for an hour that morning very hard but it was still pretty clear. I had planned on bringing my two yaks, but there was 3 of us and I did not want anyone to feel left out so we waded instead (mistake). I was with a future bro-inlaw and a good friend who I have fished with often. I brought an ultra-light and a baitcaster rigged with 12# test. I was fishing with a spider grub on a jig head in hopes of some good smallies. I had a wacky rigged Senko on the UL. After wading downstream a half mile,  I was starting to find some good looking water. It was up to waist deep, had some flow and had trees and some rocks. I could not buy a hit on the spider grub, so I switched to the Senko 3". I started catching huge Green Sunfish the size of my hand on every other cast. In some thigh deep riffles I caught a half pound Smallie. I some grass I caught a half pound Largemouth. Several more Green Sunfish. My buddy caught another half pound Largemouth off a fallen log. My buddy was getting hung up on several fallen logs that I feel would have held some good fish. Then I reach a stretch of river that has waist to shoulder deep water with logs and boulders that looked awesome. I only got to fish a small part of it before my buddy gets tired and is ready to go. I reply,it's only 16:30, we just hit the best stretch, he says he is hungry and they are not biting. I am PO'd, so we leave. Best two fish were only half #'rs but the only Smallie over like 4"s. I was hoping for much better and feel if I was in the yak it would have been. I have a cousin who floated it 2 weeks ago and only caught 2 Smallies that were worth a dang and they went about 2 #'s a piece. It was tough, but beautiful and can't wait to do it again.

Thanks for the report even though you didn't slay em its always nice to be out.  I know you would have done better in a yak too.  Maybe next time you'll get them.
