With the rivers finally down to a fishable level I have started hitting some local flows.
On 7-1 3 of us went to the Santee River and only managed 6 small bass and 1 gar. Not much current this day and the water was a little dirty...both rare occurences on this river.
7-2 My dad and I hit a local flow for about 2 hours in the afternoon and only managed 1 bass and 1 mudfish (which demolished my buzzbait). The river had been falling real fast and must have the fish shook up.
7-3 My grandfather and I went to the same local flow and spend the morning catching some bream. Went through 100 crickets pretty fast and even though most were small we managed enough to fry on the sandbar for lunch.
7-6 Shakeyworm and I hit a local flow and managed a few small bass, one jackfish, and one huge mudfish. Missed several fish early on topwater and could not get any follow-ups with the floating worm. All bass that we touched came on soft plastics.
7-8 (today) My dad hurt my feelings today. We fished until about 12:00 and we managed about 15 bass (all small) and I only cought 2 or 3. Most of his fish came on topwater (which he got out of one of my boxes after I suggested he use it) I did have 1 big fish of come unbuttoned early on a texas rig. Not sure if it was a bass of mudfish, but it didn't act like a mudfish. Who knows???
There was a bunch of wildlife on the river today. We saw 4 deer (1 doe with 2 fawns and 2 fawns by themselves), 1 cottonmouth, and heard a bunch of hogs in the swamp.
The rivers down here are getting right. If the water can just settle down some I might have some fish worthy of some pictures soon. Even though all the bass we have been catching have been small they are very healthy and fat. Good Sign. Shakeyworm and I are giving it another try tomorrow morning. Hopefully we will see some deer on the way!
