On Fourth of July, my stepson and I decided to stay close to home and try for some bass in the Wiilimantic River. The Wiilimantic is more known for trout fishing than bass, but at times the smallies and largemouth can be fun. We launched our kayaks at Eagleville Dam and went up river. Conditions were not good - bright skies, WNW wind pretty steady and generally bad frontal conditions. Also, the holidy weekend had quite a few people on the river. Bite was slow, but we did get 5 or 6 decent size LM's on buzz baits and the Rage Tail shad. We went further up river and my stepson got a nice 20", 5lb largie on a Texas rigged senko. It was huggin the channel where it cuts in close to shore. I got a pictue on my cell phone, but have not been able to get it to my computer (need to improve my technology skills or make sure I bring the camera). Just wanted to give a report as you don't catch 5lb largies in a river like this every day in CT.
