    Howdy folks,

A fellow member of Warmfly.com found yall's awesome site. I checked it out and in seconds I was looking at Mississippi creek fishing…I love (fly)fishing Mississippi creeks, and it seems you guys do as well!  Anyway, as my first post, I'd like to post a two day trip (an evening and a morning/afternoon) to a new creek that I found. It's a pretty long boat ride in the mothership. I bring along my native watercraft ulimate to sneak around quietly. This trip I was using my trusty 6 foot 3 inch  3 weight flyrod. I was using a tandem fly rig consisting of a #12 beaded nymph tied under boogle bug popper. The tide was great and the lack of rain made the creek clear.  Anyway, enjoy guys. I look forward to seeing your posts and getting to know some of you.

I saw many of these flowers

The mothership- at the mouth of the creek, looking out toward the bayou. I got out really late as I didn't realize how long this boat ride would take.

    Here's the bayou

I ended up getting a double catch, putting my little 3 weight to the test.

This fella was chasing minnows in the shallows and didn't stand a chance

    This one ate the nymph

Looking up the creek…it doesnt look very “creek-like” but you'll see how it looked as I ventured up river

    That's it for day one

hmm...not sure how to post pictures. I'm guessing this site does things differently than I am used to. Does this site have a guide to posting pictures? I haven't been able to find one....

Thanks for the help Cole…On day two I continued right where I left off at “sandy” creek.  I switched between locally tied flies

Here is the mouth of the creek

This little guy ate a #8 popper, tied by Jimmy Mayeaux from the New Orleans area.

The creek got shallow and sandy, really fast. The fish were concentrated in the dark holes

As I sat quietly, I heard a bubbly noise coming from a little feeder stream. I followed the noise and found what looks like a spring.

I also found a monster of a cypress (at least for this area)

    Little spotty

As the creek narrowed even more, I got out of the kayak to wade and switched to a mini wooly booger

Caught these beauties - longear sunfish or sometimes called pumpkinseed

That ended my favorite creek trip of '09….thanks for stopping by

Barret, thanks for the report and welcome aboard! Looks like a great day. Smile Glad to have another buggy whip fisherman! Psst....don't tell the meat fishermen and the metal slingers, but the fly rodders are the only real fishermen on the forum! Cool

What would be the point in telling them?....I think they alreay know Laugh

PawPaw- Thanks for stopping by. These were my first pumpkinseeds ever. I know what you mean, and the fish were even more vibrant in person.

Thanks Taco! Nice to see you here. This site was a great score, thanks for sharing it! I have a few friends and a girlfriend who go to LSU, so I frequent the area often. I normally stop in to say hello on my trek to Mississippi. I love your creek posts and have already located some sweet creeks north of Baton Rouge that I want to try.

Let me know when you plan on trying anything in the area, I'd like to tag along. I fish one in particular around here pretty regularly.

Ah man, absolutely. I'll have time between May 16 and June 8th.  I'm looking around the St. Francisville area and in the Woodville, MS area. On a creek near St. Fran, the stretch between two bridges I found is about 9.5 miles. That could be a long float. We could always just walk around and fish. What distance did you and Blake fish on that April trip?

Wow, that looks awesome.  That must be a virtually untouched place, if its that long of a boat ride to get out there, and you can only access with the Ultimate.  I wonder how many places there are like this along the coast that rarely get touched.  I'm new the area myself and have only fished a tidal river once, but I did enjoy it.  I'll be looking forward to more of these posts.  Must be some clean water too.  Those brim are bursting with color.

Great post Barret!  Welcome to the site and we look forward to some more cool trip reports like that.  We have a bunch of great folks here that just love to be on some moving water and it seems as if you do too so I think you'll fit right in.  In fact, we even have a bunch of folks who sling yarn around for river bass so I know you'll fit in too!   Laugh  lol, jk.  I like to give them a hard time but in reality and behind closed doors I truly do enjoy fly fishing and love reading their reports and think it is very artistic and facsinating.  Don't tell them I said that though...

We did 6 miles in 9 hours, but we fished it pretty hard. It was an enjoyable trip, but a long day.
