I figured it would be best to baptize this board with a recent report. Hopefully put the wheels in motion ya know.
A buddy, Blake, and I had Good Friday off of work and began planning a float trip to a local river earlier in the week. Neither of us had ever floated this stretch and weren't quite sure what we were in for. We knew from sources though that we should have pretty good days. We set out before sunrise and arrived at the put in shortly after, leaving a truck at the take-out. The weather was very nice, a tad on the windy side at times, but very nice to say the least. The water clarity couldn't have been any better, just a slight stain to it, but the color was still blue-green, which I was very thankful for. We had been told the water level may be a little low, but that didn't turn out the be the case. Enough with the set-up, on to the pictures:
The day started off solid. I threw my popper at a hole a few times without a wink, so I tossed a spinnerbait over there and immediately hooked up. A 2lb 7oz spotted bass. It would be my only non fly-caught fish as the action on the popper picked up throughout the day.
All but the first bass were caught on a yellow popper. There were plenty of longear sunnies out too, but I only caught a couple with the size popper I had. Blake caught a bunch though, I know he had a few that were really pretty. It was a great day and a nice long float (7:45am - 5pm), one we'll do again for sure.
