Hi, this is my first post.

I live in Suffield Ct, and live within walking distance to one of the Greastest Fisheries Ct Has

    to Offer.

    Here's my story…….

I just got back, I'm soaked to the bone. The date is April 11th, 2009.
But something pulled me to the CT River Today, Something Big.

Tools: 6'6″ St Croix med fast action rod with a Shiimano sahara 2500FB, with 8# vanish floro, with a 3″paddle tail grub black/perl pink belly, on a 1/8oz ball jig .

And a 6'6″ St Croix med/lite fasr action rod with a Prodigy 1500
    with 8# vanish floro, rigged with a 1/8oz chatterbait chart/with a salt/pepper 3″ dinger.

Raining, slight wind, and looking like Smallie Heaven to me out here.

Started off with the paddle tail grub, third cast up stream and working past some brush at the waters edge, I'd say about 3' of water.
As I came to the end of the Bush………….BAM………Fish In the air……………..Gone…..

Moved up the bank a little to some boulders and first cast over a rock and with a Thump…Fish on……. and three jumps with a sumersault finish, I land a nice fat smallie.
I lost 2 more to some awesome air shows in the same area.

God I love these Fish, and Add a swift currant…Pure Heaven!

I Moved back down the bank to where I started.
I switched to the chatter bait.
Hoping the area has calmed down from the first battle, and sure I cast past the target and came past the very end of the bush….fish on.
I'm just Beside myself now, it's raining harder and my camera keeps fogging up.

I moved down to a spot with a lot of crap at the rivers edge,
still using the chatter bait, and cast past my intended target.
As I came up on a rock, and as I popped it over, the Chatter Bait Gets SLAMMED,
It Almost TOOK THE ROD OUT OF MY HANDS!!!!!!!
    HOLY CHEESE ON RICE BATMAN!!!!!
I'm thinking LMB?? This Early??? Then She Jumps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    OH MY LORD!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now, This is the Bass of the season, the Mother of All Loads.
Something So Beautiful, My Jaw Just hit the Dirt when she Jumped!
    Oh……..My……..Lord………
I have Not hooked into a River Smallie this Big for two Years now!
She Races out towards the center of Stony Brook and Jumps agian,
I'm ****tin my pants praying she doesn't throw the Hook!
Now shes screaming donw the Bank and into the brush, noooooooooooo,
she turns and flies right back out now towards the rocks and
Up she goes again for a 3rd time, drag screaming heart pumping.
Breath Rocky Breath, she Jumps Again!!!!
Now closer I scramble as best I could, but there is too much crap
for her to hang up on……….so cold water and all, I climbed
into the water for the chilly landing.
I was breathless, I couldn't even make a sound, not only because
of the sight of this beauty, but the size and the weight of her When I lifted her. I can't even guess at the weight, but I've held SMB
from 3# to 6.2# and this Baby was close to 5#, if not more, a Little over 21″ long!

    All On 8# test

It's gonna be a Good Season Boys and Girls.

    LIFE IS GOOD!

WOW, now that is what a River Bassin report is all about! Very entertaining. Laugh

What a report and welcome to the site!  I hope to see some more awesome reports from you Connecticut folks as the weather continues to warm up there.

I took a guide trip out the other day and the young man I was guiding hooked into some nice smallies about that size on a chatterbait too.  They do love it.

Are you trying to show the guys up Bassnut?!?!? We can't let a woman catch bigger fish than us guys! Laugh Haha. What's even impressive is that you endured those cold and rainy conditions for some nice fish! You truly are a Bassnut!

Keep up the great play by play!

You have to love how those smallies fight!

    Bassnut,

Great reports as usual - glad to see you on this site. We CT fisherman have to let everyone know we can catch some bass when the ice finally melts!

very impressive BASSNUT!  You don't even find many girls down here in the south that can fish or know as much about fishing as you seem to.  I'd say your dad did a great job!
