I'm a regular when it comes to wading the Columbia area, but my best friend, who is also a regular when it comes to Columbia wading, just moved to the Greenville area (Simpsonville to be exact) and...
The guide service actually postponed the trip. I didn't have an open spot in my schedule until late June. Hope the weather and the biggens are going to be cooperative then.
Hey fellas. I'm headed to the New (above Claytor) this coming Saturday, the 16th. Any last minute words or tips for a newbie? Water temp? Water color? Patterns? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.
Yeah, I've been keeping tabs on the weather in that area and it has been quite a bi t cooler there than here in SC. Looks like some upper 60's could be on the way though.
Hey takers, how well do...
Thanks takers!!
This is only a one day trip so I have to pack for anything that may come my way. I hate not packing any topwater baits but it has freed-up a lot of space in the old tacklebox....
Hello from South Carolina!! Me and a friend of mine have a New River smallie trip booked for 4/16. We will be meeting our guide in the Pembroke area. It's my understanding the hardcore topwater bite,...
Still a little too high and dirty. Wouldn't chance if I were you.
You got that right, Stump. River won't be good to go until mid-to-late next week...DAMMIT!!!!
Yep, I'll second that. A few and me were going to go today but not after what we found this morning...high, muddy water. It's going to be a couple days before it gets back to fishable conditions.
One more note about the trip...It amazed me how many times we would hook a fish and it was being followed by 3 or 4 other fish. This wasn't the case when we hooked a dink but when we hooked a better...
Your technical advice apparently was lost on me, Bruiser. Oh well, at least they're up there. Thanks again.
Good stuff BC! Bronzebacks are definitely addictive.
Don't know why they're different size but at least they're viewable. Thanks Bruiser!
Riverpops, the water level was LOW. To be honest, I was surprised we did so well because the flow was low ans...
Hope this works...

Work and fishing tournaments has kept me from hitting the river as much as I normally do but a good friend of mine and I went to the river on Monday for a little wading for downtown browns.

If I'm not mistaken, it's a "no keep" season on stripers, not "no catch." You can catch'em you just can't keep'em.
Gotta love it...great stuff!!!
Good looking fish, fellas. The smiles tell the story. Thanks for sharing.
White rods, at least the higher-end rods, used to be the norm, but then styles changed and the "flashy" colors came onboard. Now, it seems that "retro" is in and a lot of rod makers are making white...
Hey Drew, I see a bunch of white rods in your pics. They wouldn't happen to the new Veritas line from Abu Garcia...that isn't "out yet"...would they?
I'm a bit of a topwater junkie (I'll throw topwater ALL DAY for one fish) so my favorites are buzzbaits (carry several different sizes) and "popping-style" baits.
I also carry an assortment of small...
AWESOME SMALLIE!!! Good stuff fellas!
Warm weather and minimum chance of rain...now hopefully SCE&G doesn't plan on pulling a bunch of water and jack the water level all up. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Nice fattie!!!! Good stuff fellas!!
