When someone says "I'll keep that to myself" I'm automatically interested. :)
Can't argue with that Hal. With the "old school" definition obviously out the window, what makes a "species" nowadays? I've also always wondered why we don't have animal races....maybe it's a PC...
Ha...I didn't see this one coming. I suspected a sub species of the northern spot in the coastal tribs, but I wasn't aware if anybody cared much less of any ongoing research. I'm a little surprised...
Don't get your hopes up...that's a juvenile. Adults look very much like a regular northern spotted bass.
Thanks again fellas. Barrett, it's been a while! As I recall there were some nice ones caught that weekend too.
Looks like an awesome outing. And I'm with dmurf...how big was that striper?
Thanks guys!
I got a window of opportunity for a couple hours on the river this afternoon. The fish were active but just didn't seem to be hungry. With just a couple hours to fish, I threw the box at them...
Some years you get a warm snap and it's relatively easy...like this year. Some years (like 2010 & 2011), it's super cold or super wet (or both) all month, and it makes you wonder if the streak will...
Inspired by nielson on GRF, I have made it a goal to catch a river bass every January for as long as I'm able. I was a little worried this year with the little one in the house if a kitchen pass...
Hey, I've only got 2 shoalies over 5...and they came on back to back casts on that magical morning last spring. I'm still thrilled to catch one over 3lb when I get the chance to fish for them. :)
Welcome! I don't think there's many of us down that way, but I'm in Dothan several times a year.
BTW, be careful naming your honey holes for the world to see. ;)
There are few people with the credentials to say that with a straight face when talking about a shoal bass. Nice one!
Congrats!...and cool pic as always.
Don't know if I have the know-how or the budget for a 24/7 stream, but I finally got around to filming a crawfish feeding. This one took longer than usual for some reason...I think I was distracting...
Doing great! Sorry, I haven't had time to get some video. My wife got him trained on blood worms while I was on the road, and he chows down on goldfish about once a week. I'm gonna have to start...
I missed a couple of those (the rapids and the logo)...guess I'll have to watch it again. :)
I was wondering where the heck did they find a freshwater reel that had a clicker on it? Never dawned on...
While, like every other reality TV show, I thought it was a bit hokey and much of it was obviously staged (like when they show Eric set the hook, then show some underwater footage of a 3lb smallie,...
Wow...bravo! Looks every bit of 5' to me.
Thanks everybody.
Boykinsbuddy, by my best interpretation of the law, I'm good. He was caught legaly on hook & line and there's no size limit for bass in AL. The only bass you can't keep is shoal...
Heck of a day, turkey!
I dug my old 75 gallon aquarium out of the closet. Spent a couple weekends creating a new 3D backdrop out of foam block and quick-crete. I set it up so that water flows (although rather slowly)...
Nice onces, guys. But that last LM is fuuuugly. :)
I'm sure you don't want to carry too much tackle while wading. Besides, I really don't think color matters much to river fish...especially those shallow river spots. It needs to be visible but...
