Going to brave the heat and do a float this Sunday, 7/1. Thinking about heading north to the Yadkin. Never fished it, anyone interested?

Tread is going to scout the yadkin in the morning. He and I may do a long float saturday. If you are available let me know.
I'll let you know how it looks if you only have sunday.
I could possibly get out sunday also, but won't know untill the last minute.

I will probably be doing the Yadkin on Sunday. If I do, will probably be putting in at 5.30-6 and taking out at noon or no later than 1 pm. I will most likely be floating the 601>Rockford section. The water has cleared up in Elkin and suspect conditions are improving rapidly downstream due to the absence of intense popcorn thunderstorms in the watershed. If you can work around the extremely early launch time and want to join, I will change the status of this trip from probably to will do.

Wow, thats early! Don't think I can swing that, but thanks!
FYI, it doesn't have to be the Yadkin, can be another watershed...

I was made aware today that I will not be able to fish at all this weekend. I'm getting buried alive at work and gotta pull two full days this weekend.

yadkin was stained yesterday at 601. might have been worth wading in moving water, but we didnt try. Instead we went to the new and fished in slime.
lots of slime on the mouth of wilson to bridle creek float.

I headed south of Charlotte. Water was LOW and moderate visibility. Did ok considering it was 107 degrees. All fish were caught either directly in the shoals or directly above or below. They were sticking pretty close to rocks and the back side of ledges. Got a few to come up on a buzzbait early, then switched around a bit but finally settled on a fluke. Caught maybe ten, but nothing that big.

we werent expecting the slime or would have gone up or downriver.
water was clear. fished pockets near the banks and in areas that contained less algae and boated 20+, but none over 14"
the algae made it difficult as that most of the good areas were covered up in it.
I wont be doing that float again anytime soon. In fact it looks to be that way past independence.
During most summers, the area around the new river campground at independence gets slimed, but I'm not used to seeing it that far upstream.

My buddy fished the the Elkin>Crutchfield section on Saturday and did quite well. There was only one other river floater.
The river is stained in Elkin due to the rains last night but should clear up soon. The river still looks good at 421
