Bayou Shoal

With my main flow still recovering from deluge #3, I fished my backyard flow, the Natalbany River. The Nat is an easygoing fickle old slow flow that can cause you to take up golf on some occasions. Or at least contemplate watching “American Idle”! Yeah right, I would rather sink my Coosa then do that!
I cruised & probed the shallows with visions of BIG chunky gals devouring my jig… Well, two hours of paddling and one little Filet-O-Bass bank runner later I started thinking a new game plan is in order here. I decided against the Less Miles approach of doing absolutely nothing…
After pounding the shallows I ventured to a stretch of river that narrows and has a nice 12-foot sheer drop bank for a good 100 meters or so. Made several cast before coming up to an ancient looking pine log that was kind of suspended & waiting to float away. I pitched my jig up next to the log and let it flutter into the depths of the murky Nat… BAM, it felt like a cannonball exploding under the water when ole’ mossy back slammed down my jig.
Caught that bass as the sun was setting. What a nice way to end my day! Well, it’s now officially dark and the skeeters are eating Bayou Shoal for supper… Dang, the put in is a long ways off from here!

That’s life on the Bayou!
