Is anyone in the middle part of the state having luck fishing with cicadas or cicada mimicking lures?

13 years ago I wore the Stones River out with Cicadas. Today no luck with cicada like lures and I did not try live ones. I hope to make a trip with live bait soon. The Tennessean wrote a pretty good article on them last week.

13 years ago, I didn't do well on artificial cicadas once the hatch peaked and just past the peak. Unfortunately I didn't try on the upswing. I also found live livebait worked okay, but as soon as the cicada quit beating their wings on the water, no hits. So fresh is best. I ended up using small rubber bands to attach to hook, might try glue this time. Putting the hook through them didn't work very well.

This might sound strange from a smallie lover but if you have carp in your waters there's alot of fun to be had during cicada season. Carp love those darn things. If I'm using a fly rod I take a medium size popper and slowly pull it along the surface of the water and when a carp starts following the retrieve I wait until it sticks it's mouth above water to eat the lure and just stop the retrieve. You will hook up everytime. Believe me a 5 to 15 pound carp on a fly rod can be a hoot. I do the same thing with an ulta-lite spinning rod but generally use the smallest torpedo lure available.
So far the cicadas haven't shown up in these parts yet but when they do I'll take a few minutes out of my smallie chasing to get in on some carp action. You won't be sorry if you give this a try.

He is right, but, I used a UL spinning rod and a crickhopper during the last big Cicada hatch. Carp were wearing me out on the Holston.

The cicadas are very heavy on our local flow, and it was neat watching the bass come up and take them right off the top. I didn't have anything like a cicada to throw so I threw a wolka clacking buzzbait and ended up catching 2 spots and 2 bream. Jason used a buzzbait that didn't clank and he only caught 1 bream on it. It was neat because the buzzbait I was using sounded a lot like them on the water. It was cool. I also caught several with cicadas in their belly. And the roar of these bugs are like no other. Its been a really neat experience.

Cool, I went out on my local flow and waded a little over a mile....no smallies, but several large rock bass. I didn't have anything like a cicada to fish with but i was having success swimming a grub weightless on the topwater. I figured they were looking up for cicadas (superstitious fishermans logic)... It seemed to work.
My little brother bought a few well crafted cicada flies at Cumberland Transit (i think) and was tearing up the bream at a pond, then he hooked a 15-20 lb carp on his #6 fly rod. He fought it for over 10 minutes before it straightened the hook a few feet from the bank.

I had good luck during the cicada hatch by taking a perch pattern(the one with the orange on the sides) tiny torpedo and coloring the white belly black with a sharpie. The shoalies and gar were tearing it up.
