I know it's a little late but better late than never. Here's some photos documenting the fun had at the 2011 GA Spring Rodeo. The high waters kept the numbers down but we still made the best of it and all who attended had a great time.
Day 1
Smiley and I met Ocmulgee Tim at the campsite Thursday evening to get set up and prepare our stuff for our float the next day. Gator Hater(John) rolled into camp about 9:45 or so. This would be it for Thursday night and the Friday float. We all set around the camp swapping stories and the usual camp stuff. John fit right in with the group and we quickly felt like we had known him for a while. Which seems to happen when you meet your fellow riverbassers that you've been communicating with on the site. We brought our dachshund appropriately named Dotsun along for his first ever camping trip and he loved it. Took him home before we fished which he hated but he loved the camping experience.
Friday morning hit and we took to a small river that was high and stained but fishable compared to others in the area. Fishing was about what was expected with the conditions. We all caught 3 or 4 with the only real fish to even mention was a couple of nice sized redeyes that Rachael and John caught. I was never close enough to John to get pictures of his fish but Rachael's red eye was the biggest I have seen in person. We didn't get a weight but I know it was over a pound. Here's some pics from day one.

Day 2
Day 2 would be filled with some better fish and a few added to the crew. Friday evening when we arrived back at the camp, Ocmulgee Tim's family group with his son Ocmulgee Adam had arrived. Also that evening Big Wooly Mammoth (Steven), Wetinaline(Gregg), his step son Jimmy, and RiverHolic(Gene) and his wife and daughter had arrived. Of course new friendships were made, stories swapped, and grub was eaten. I can't speak for everyone but I had a great time getting to know some of my fellow riverbasser's that night.
Since we had a small group we all just planned to fish on one section of the Ocmulgee on Saturday. Somehow the dam operators had decided to bring the water down to a height that we could fish so we were all stoked about fishing this float. We had a total of 8 people fishing so that wasn't a huge group. The fishing was about the same as the day before. Most folks caught a few fish. Ocmulgee Tim and Wetinaline had the better fish of the day. Wetinaline's massive 5lb 13oz shoal bass that is huge for anyone, let alone someone who has never fished this river! We all really enjoyed seeing Gregg catch that fish and how excited he got. I never knew there were other's who got as worked up about fish as I do. Ocmulgee Tim had a couple of nice fish including a 2lb 3oz shoal bass and a 2lb 11oz spot. Smiley had a couple of 2lb spots also.

Fish Fry
Saturday afternoon Lawnmowerman had arrived to share in the fellowship and food. Tim was gracious enough to bring fish, hush puppies and cole slaw to cook for everyone Saturday night. The group enjoyed eating and telling tall fish tales the rest of the night, and the excitement of that huge shoal bass must have been retold fifty times. What an excellent weekend!
