Greeting all, I just signed up here. I moved to mid-TN about a year ago and it was quickly apparent that a canoe was very helpful in fishing around here. I have made the switch from trout bum to bass bum and I love it. In January I bought a used Old Town 155 and it is working out great!
Well, I have fished my canoe a fair amount since I bought it but I hadn't gotten it slimed. I wasn't worried because I had fished for Musky and Carp all the times I had taken it out previously - both notoriously difficult fish.
I broke it in proper on Friday by floating a small creek and targeting bass. I wanted to find some Smallies, but only LDR'd one of those. I did land a Greenie and a bunch of Bluegills, Red eyes, and one Red Breast. I spotted a couple of monsters in the shallows just couldn't get them to bite. One was the biggest bass I have ever seen in my life. I'll remember the rocks that he haunts and be back. The fish were not looking up. Tried a topwater fly in the morning, but quickly switched to a streamer. All hits were on the streamer.
This little creek was awesome. My kind of place. I am trying find more secluded places like this one. Not much evidence that it gets fished often and lots of wildlife - turkeys, kingfishers, wood ducks, flickers, pileated woodpeckers, tons of wildflowers, beaver dams, snakes, turtles, some big Buffalos, and no other people - nice.
The creek had a good current in places and kept you on your toes to watch for dangerous strainers, braids with no end, and hard hitting rocks. I introduced my craft to a decent rock in the second rapid but wasn't phased. We had to portage once and had to squeeze through one other spot. Overall, it was a great day on the water. My goal this year is to a lot more floats like this one.
A few pictures from the day.

Put up a good fight and jumped all over the place
