Met up with another Jackson Kayak Fishing Team member Brady today. He was in town for the weekend and looking for a river to cross off the list. We fished the Comal and the Guadalupe river in New Braunfels. Weather was overcast and nice with some wind blowing. I guess the full moon and lack of flow had the bite pretty slow most of the day. I caught 5 or 6 on a Texas rigged worm. This was enough for Brady to switch to one and he was soon on fish as well. Traveling back I stuck the nose of the kayak in some current to cut across to some shallow rocks so that I could get out and line it up through the rapids. Within seconds I was bathing and fighting to gather all of my gear. Lost one rod and recovered everything else. Man was I glad that I had my Onyx PFD on. The water was cold and fast and it kept me stable enough to gather up and get to an area that I could stand. Thanks for coming down to fish Brady and for going snorkeling to try and find the rod and reel. Enjoyed spending the day with you

Was your seat in the high position? Don't know if it's just because of ton of folks have Coosa's or what but it seems like a lot of people have been turning them over. Not talking bad about them, I have one that I am picking uo soon and my wife Smiley has one. Just worried it might not be as stable as I hoped. I have only fished in Smiley's Coosa once and our home water can have some nasty current sometimes.

Glad to see I wasn't the only one getting tossed:) One thing I figured out during my float Sat after tipping over as soon as I got in (wasn't going to post this) is I will be getting a little syphon in case this happens again. After dunking myself I didn't immediately think about water getting in the hull but started noticing the boat veering when coming out of rapids to whichever direction I was already pointed (I guess that water in the hull would go to one side of the hull when I leaned causing this). I started paddling on whichever side I was heading to counter this so it worked out. I chalked it up getting used to the new boat and thankfully I didn't loose anything. BTW this Coosa is sooooo much faster than my NuCanoe. Having a hull that isn't so wide allows me to finally be able to paddle using my core instead of my arms making my handling ability and speed MUCH better. Also I had my seat in the raised position the entire float.

I was under the impression that this yak had scupper holes. Is this not the case? Or is the water getting into the actual hull?
A good sized car wash sponge may be easier to rid your yak with unwated water. They are quick and easy, as they soak up a lot of water in each use.

Yeah it was in the high position. The yak is stable I have used the seat in the high position all of the time with no problem. I will start running rapids in the low positiOn now.

Yeah, I haven't gone through any rapids in the high position, and I probaly won't be giving that a try. Thanks for sharing your day with us on the river. I have caroclips that I use to attach everything to my Coosa somehow, either to a bungee, or the seat. I keep my tackle in my bag under my seat. After flipping my swifty last year I try to make sure everything is connected somehow to the boat, so I hopefully won't loose anything.
