Took a trip to go fishing at the Topock Marsh, but found it to be shallow, murky, and teeming with carp and catfish. It covers a large area but could not find any water over 4ft deep. Did catch one little large mouth that was very white in color.

moved across the river and set up camp on Moabi Cove aka Pirate Cove a nice branch of the Colorado river. Nice clearer water and more familiar structure and water temps.

Entrance to the colorado River. very drastic change in clarity and temperature. Oooh and current. I paddled up a little ways and hoped to find another inlet, the current got the better of me and I floated back down. Need to look at a map and find more places similar to the one I was in. A great time and good to see and fish a couple of new bodies of water. If you are ever in Vegas or Phoenix I recommend the drive over as you can rent canoes and kayaks right there. It might be too hot later than this though, it was 85-90 yesterday.

Very nice report! Nice fish too... What was up with the white bass? I have caught some bass in very muddy water, but never that white.

I was wondering the same thing. I think it is the murky water. It seems like a lot of the fish I catch in murky water are less vibrant and the ones in cool clear water have better markings. That said, when I look through this forum I see a lot of very vibrant fish caught in dingy water. Maybe it got bleached by the desert sun!! The temp down there hovers over 100 from April through October!

Great report and nice pics. Hey was that Randy's pirate barge? I didn't see Ocean Kayak on it anywhere. Nevermind, as I remember he only gets yellow boats.

Jerkwater Canoe rentals is right there with a fleet of 17 foot aluminum monsters. They didn't have anything as classy as a ocean kayak, its all stripper polls, booze, big noisy 12 cylinder cigarette boats and boat taxis. Randy may have hit the road.
