I had to take a month off from fishing. We have a new born baby that is one week old now and I couldn't get far from home that last month. First full day back I catch a 15lb 15oz fish. A new baby and a 15lber makes for a good week. Our best five was close to 40lbs as well with a seven pounder as well as a bunch of three to six pound fish and a couple more big ones that got away. since then I have been back a few times with best fives going in the upper twenties each day using nothing but swimbaits and lipless crankbaits. The big bass in the photo was caught on a High Power Herring.

Thanks for the comments. The guy who was with me took all the pics and I didn't even think to ask for any other than the ones of the big one.

I was searching under swimbaits and had to comment AGAIN on what an awesome pig that is! I'm becoming a believer in swimbaits-I just don't have too many LM in my rivers, mostly spots and smallies.

Riverlover the other bass will hit swimbaits you have to believe and keep on chunking. Make sure your line is heavy enough to handle the larger than normal size fish. Also it makes no sense to throw a very expensive lure on line under 15 pound test. When fish are active they will crush a large swim bait. I have recently had success with a King Shad on the same float we made last year.

That is definitely a hog....
On a complete derailing side note...why does everyone always hold their fish out away from their body when taking a picture other than it makes it appear larger?
I know i always try to hold it close to my body for a frame of reference and to show the true size of the fish.
Ultimately it doesn't really matter, especially with a fish this large, but i was just curious...
