Jump n Fish

Had time for a short afternoon trip today. Got on the water about 12:30 and I was off by 5:00, not ideal time of day for this time of year, but a good day anyway.

Water was as low and clear as I've ever seen it on this river. Although I enjoy days like that, we could use a little rain.

So I've tried to learn a few things from the fly guys so to start the day out, I did what any good flyfisherman does and tried to see what was hatching. Couldn't find many insects, but saw a few of these little spiders hanging around, so I figure I'd try to pattern them best I could.

So I dug through my wal-mart lures and found the perfect match!!

Success!!! That's what being super observant of your surroundings does for ya.

Early in the trip I tied into this nice LM. Picture doesn't do much justice, but she went 2-12. If she fattened up a bit, she'd gone a lot more.

These guys were super aggressive today, and caught them till my heart was content.

You may think that 2-12 was the highlight of my day, but to be honest this little critter was. This is a first for me, and I've wanted to catch one of these for a long time and today was finally my day. I've heard these elusive creatures existed around here, but there must not be too many since it took me 3 years to catch one. Very cool fish!

This picture turned out way better than I expected. I'm assuming this is just a regular snapper and not an alligator snapper? Any experts?

And the scenery shot of the day.

Great post and pretty water. I enjoyed that.

A pickeral (or jack fish we call them here in SC) may not be a bass but they are a lot of fun. Totally viscious strikes.

There are several areas that I use a wire leader when I fish. One day lost 5 flies in 30 minutes to those buggers.

Sweet. I think that's the first pike I've seen in MS.

I believe your turtle is razor backed musk turtle.
