I recently completed the Riverneck'N Reaction rivermission where you stop while in a hurry because you are on the way somewhere and catch a bass within 45 minutes. Sunday I was on the way to Monticello to go to church with my friend Jacob at. 5:25.......supposed to be there at 6:00. Well I stopped at the 16 bridge and caught a fish within 20 minutes or so. Took my shakyhead down and caught a shoalie about a pound and a half on my 3rd cast. Spent more time walking to and from the car than fishing. Needless to say my budd y was wondering why my shorts were soaked. :) I have also completed the 4 species in one day back in May on a float on the ocmulgee, caught spots,LM,shoals, and redeyes..multiples of all species on that day. Now I am in the midst of the 14 river bass in 14 days...one a day for 14 days straight. I was at fish number 2 yesterday and today I tried the Ocmulgee but only had a bite on my shakyhead and the dam released water on me.....man I thought it was over. Well at 4:30 I leave for the Flint and it's an hour drive. Would leave me 3 hrs to catch a bass...no sweat right? So I put my yak in at 5:30 and at 7:00 I still only lost one dink on my rapala and that was it. Was having a tough time....water was real stained, much different than the clear ocmulgee I am use to. Kept getting grass on my shakyhead and rapala. Getting frustrated I decide to switch to a double willow leaf(gold) chartruese and white spinnerbait. I have never caught a shoal bass on a spinnerbait but hey, its worth a try. Tie it on and my 1st cast to the right of me behind a shoal and wham! A shoalie nails it! Sweet....first cast with the spinnerbait and got my 3rd fish in 3 days! I am still alive. Ended the day with 4 shoalies, one big slidr turtle and a bream. 3 on the spinnerbait and one on my shakyhead w/ redshad utail. All were about a pound but fun nonetheless. Native shoal bass are different looking than the stocked ocmulgee shoalies....cool. got a great pic off the bluff of the sunset on the way home. So it took all day but I kept the mission alive.
