I'm going to be down visiting some family in a few weeks, and was going to take my 7 year old out fishing a little. Is there any good spot that would be easy to get to and kid friendly. I'll have to bank fish, or would take him wading in shallow water.

Thanks

You could fish right below the MIL dam on upper Wylie. There are spotted and largemouth bass there and I think stripers and whites too during certain times of the year. There are also catfish, bream, and the usual suspects that eat live/cut bait. I believe there is substantial bank access there too. Good luck, wherever you go!

Thanks. Sounds like a great place that we will have to check out.

This may be late but you could also take a look at Bobby's just off hwy 27 at the Catawba river in Mt. Holly. He charges a couple dollars to launch boats from there but also allows bank fishing. There is also a city park near there you can fish from as well.

Thanks for the heads up Catawba...I think my aunt and uncle lived right above the place you are talking about. Our trip was a little shorter there since we stayed an extra day at the beach. My uncle ended up finding a pay catfish lake that he wanted to take us too. Wasn't that fun till my 7 year old hooked up with his first cat. The smile on his face was worth paying for!

I hope the next time we get down that way I have a kayak and can hit the river up some.
