i slipped off to some new spots on two different flows after sitting in grad class for 5 hours....

i did say 'sit' in class cause that's about all i did other than search on google earth for some entry points to the new holes.

i had a blast wading some skinny water.....the coolest thing was that i caught fish from every spot that i went to....that's a good sign. i could only spend a limited amount of time at each hole so i'm looking forward to heading back to spend more time finding out if they're any big uns hanging around. i did miss a mean looking 4-5 LM. i was trying to get down the rocks to lip her and she pulled a sick acrobatic stunt and spit my mini-me to the bank.

i'm used to my local flow and can pretty much tell what kind of fish i catch there.....it's amazing how fish species can differ in pattern from one hole to the next on some of these flows.

looks like a spot to me...this flow is full of them...but it may be a redeye. toothpatch present. caught a few more just like him

thought this one was a shoalie when i was dragging him in. had a toothpatch, though....redeye maybe? or just a shoalie with a toothpatch?

i think this one is a shoalie.....no toothpatch

here's a couple of the bigger fish i caught....i know for certain what these boogers are :)

Nothing like fishing new waters!

The first fish is a spot. The next two are shoalies. The rest are LMs. Nice going!

Bruiser.....thanks and i agree with all your observations (i bow to your infinite river bass knowledge), but what about the shoalie with a toothpatch? ever seen one?

Tooth patches happen now and again on shoalies.

Yeah Basshead is right you'll find an occasional tooth patch on them but if you were not in a hooch trib (or a shoalie trib) then I would say it must be a redeye.

Nice scouting report!

That first fish is a young largemouth, not a spot...separated dorsal, large mouth, creamy white belly (no namesake rows of small spots). They can have tooth patches, but it's rare.

The other two look like shoalies to me, assuming the flow you were fishing eventually drains into Apalachicola Bay. They don't look very "redeye" to me.

Good looking fish man....that first one sure looks like a skinny largemouth but with a tooth patch I would have to go with spot. I have fished for 25 years now and have never seen a largemouth with a tooth patch on the tongue. But who knows...they may appear sometimes. I think that the other one that looks likee a small shoalie but had a tooth patch may be one of those spot and shoalie hybrids...that is if that flow contains spots. I keep catching them in the ocmulgee and I swear they just look like a shoal bass that maybe had a spot slip it's genes in there somewhere in the fishes family history. But that's just a theory. Here's one I caught the othr day wade fishing that looks like a shoal bass, had a tooth patch and you can see the remnants of a lateral line near the tail like a spot would have. Again, just a theory....really means I have no idea.

I agree with RH that the first fish is a young LM. Good ID RH!

Go get'em Turk!

yeah it's for sure a LM.....after thinking it over.....the first fish i caught had a tooth patch and was a spot....i didn't get a pic of it though. my memory just got frazzled a little.

headed back to that same small flow....caught a beautiful, dark (they are usually lighter around here) spot and a LM. i'll get some pics up later.
