Me, Bbass, and Mgoforth got a chance to get out today and do a little fishing. The bite was very on-off today. We'd catch 4 or 5 real quick, then go an hour without a bite. All of our fish were caught in shallow water. The flow we were on had an abundance of very deep water, but the fish either weren't there or weren't biting. But every time the river would get shallow and the water became oxygenated, the bite instantly turned back on. 95% of all fish taken today were taken on topwater, and we fished from 6:00am to 3:30pm. It didn't matter how high the sun was or how hot it was, they were on FIRE on top. I threw a crawfish until I thought my arm would fall off without a single bite, which is extremely rare. But then again this particular flow is covered up with gizzard and threadfin shad, so maybe that had something to do with it. The bass sure didn't seem hungry, that's for sure; they were simply attacking the top water lures out of aggression, making no real attempt to eat it. It made for a LOT of missed fish, but we all ended with a very satisfying number. No one got a hog, but of course there's the one that got away  and Matt managed a 3-0, so all in all it was a superb day. I just FINALLY entered the new age and got myslef a proper camera, so my pictures should be a little better than before; I even took some scenery pics to try out my new camera.

Here are a few of my better fish. Most fish were less than a pound, but i did manage a few decent ones. I just wish you could see the one that got away.

Some of those may be the same fish twice.

This is what the scenery was like:

And finally, we saw 5, yes FIVE of these guys today. I don't mean snakes in general, I mean we saw 5 cottonmouths. I know that central Alabama is not SUPPOSED to have a healthy population of cottonmouths, but I now know where they all must live. Four survived for another day, one met the business end of my hand cannon.

Your new camera takes excellent pictures!!!! Good ones!!!! I enjoyed the beautiful scenery! I'm not a snake expert but I don't think that is a cottonmouth. Looks more like a banded water snake.
Maybe some others that are more versed on those vermon will chime in.

Believe you me Pawpaw, I'm always the FIRST one to cry "banded water snake" when someone claims theyn saw a cottonmouth. But also believe you me, these were cottonmouths. I got close enough to see for sure.

Here are a couple of cottonmouth photos I took on the Lower Ocmulgee River here in Georgia:

Hard to tell real well in the photo but that head looks very triangular and "cottonmouthy" to me!

Very nice report and some real nice fish to boot! I agree with PawPaw that the camera is working well! Maybe it even has a timer on it and we'll see a face with all the hawgs I know you catch! lol, Thanks for sharing Turbo.

LOL, I think you took all the exact same scenery pictures I did last time I was on that float. Other than the fish, I'd swear I was looking at my own trip report.

Good trip!

Those are some nice bass. I love the scenery pictures. The pattern on that snake looks like a copperhead to me. I did a float a couple of months back that doesn't get much traffic. We quit counting snakes at 15. All but one were water snakes. The last was a copperhead. He was sunning on a ledge and I threw a buzzbait at him and drug it right in front of him to see what he would do. I realized I hadn't thought out my plan because he struck at it as it passed. I still don't know what I would have done if I would have hooked him. I guess I would have given him the buzzbait and about 20 feet of line. It probably would have been a good fight though.
