I had an appointment above Dahlonega so put a rod in the truck with a jointed crankbait tied on... :D Looked like this:

After appt. I stopped on a road near the Chestatee river and walked down to a StriPurdy looking spot (which is normally right where a good rapid meets a deep hole). About the third cast I got this (sorry for terrible phone picture quality...):

Made a couple more casts with no more hits and back to the truck. Took about 10 minutes to walk down to the river, cast a few times, land nice striper, walk back to truck. Gotta love river fishing in the cold water mountain rivers above lakes with stripers... ;) Tight Lines. Dirk

That's awesome! So waht is the deal on the jointed stick bait? Looks nice; I was trying a Rapala jointed stick bait this evening on the creek but couldn't get 'em to latch on.

You probably forgot to take the back treble off and put a tail on it... :) I am a little superstitious I guess, but I won't throw a minnow imitator type lure without it having a tail. Kind of like I wouldn't go duck hunting with decoys that didn't have heads... lol... The more real it looks and "swims" the more bites in my opinion. Like I said though I have some fishing related OCD symptoms...

Dirk, you cram into 10 minutes what takes me all day...or year...OK, I'm busted, I never caught a stripe that big but I have taken all day to catch enough little ones to weigh that much! Great post!

How do you make your tails?

I have a good collection of soft shad shaped lures that I have bought over the years. Most of them are not very good lures BUT they have nice tails. I just cut the tail off with scissors and trim it down at the front, then remove the rear treble on the jointed bait, and put on a regular hook with the tail on it with hook point facing up (have to use an extra "ring" to get the hook to be facing up). Once I have the tail on the hook the way I want it I superglue it to the hook so it won't get out of whack sliding down the hook.
