Well, this report is a little late, but I ended up taking this trip a couple weeks ago. It had been too long since I was last in the river and even longer since I broke out the fly rod. So I hit my favorite river, the Eno. for a few hours in mid-afternoon, armed with my 5-6 wt. The water was murky, but not as bad as it looks in the pictures.
I started with a size 12 silver flash clouser with lightly weighted eyes. After the first 15 minutes I had landed 2 bass, a couple bream, and a Roanoke. That little clouser was a perfect match for the baitfish cruising around. Then it all came to a sudden end when I hooked into a really nice bass. After about 8 minutes of him pulling me and me chasing him he ran me under a log and broke the leader. Unfortunately I didn't have any more clousers that were that size and weren't on the heavy side.
I switched to a crystal flash wooly booger and continued to have luck, but the bass got visibly smaller. I fished it the rest of the day. My totals were 8 LMB, 5 Roanoke bass, and countless bream. All but one bass were in the 10"-12" range. I had one that threw the hook at my feet before I could get a photo that was right around 15"-16". And of course, the one that got away.
I also got to see a doe and her fawn who played hide and seek with me along the river bank. You can see the fawn between her mother's legs in one of the photos....pretty awesome.
Tight lines!
