View Full Version : Upper Saluda Fishing Report

For those who have the time the upper Saluda above Lake Murray currently has plenty of stripers to wiggle your rod tip. Fished the area on Saturday (5/1) with my son - caught numerous nice fish using swimbaits. First time on this section for me - beautiful stretch of water (albeit much different than the Virginia waters that I normally fish). Really looking forward to a repeat trip one of these days.

Are you talking about the area right above Lake Murray, or farther up near Lake Greenwood? I live on the lake so I'm wondering if i could take my boat up the river from the lake and test the area.

We used a square stern canoe with a 2 hp Honda 4 stroke motor that my son has to motor up the river several miles. While we did see one runabout and one john boat in the first mile or so, we didn't see anyone else in the upper section that we fished. Matter of fact all we saw were Bald Eagles and other forms of nature - no people at all. Being my first time on this section of the river I have no reference point to know what the "normal" water level would be. My son thought that it was a little above normal. There are some ledges in the area, however at the river level we experienced a shallow draft john boat could navigate the stretch we fished with no problem. I would be reluctant to take my bassboat that far up river.
