This process lets you make just about any type popper, slider you can think up out of foam. It requires two tools one is a foam plug cutter and a centering tool, both easy to make and speeds the process up greatly. I make at least 20 at a time with this process. I show how to make the cutter in another thread and the centering tool is two diet coke llids glued together and two holes drilled centered in them the insert is simply a foam plug centered with the hole in the cap. The pop caps have a dimple left from the manufacturing process that show where center is. The needle is a metal coat rack section ground to a point on one end and bent on the other for a handle.

1. Cut strips of 2mm or 6mm foam into strips between 2 3/8" to 2 1/2" wide , then glue them together with 3M super77 spray adhesive (wal mart) stack them together and add a litte weight to get good adhesion. (cures completly in about 6 hours ).

2. take the plug cutter and with the foam laying on a hard surface slowly (slow speed setting) cut the plug out of the foam , letting the weight of the drill do the cutting (don't force it).

3. Take the centering tool and put it in the end of the plug cutter and slowly insert it into the foam ( if it has trouble going through the foam let the needle rest against your tying station and turn the drill on).

4. Then push the foam out of the cutter with a thin blade screwdriver.

5. Use a #8 common nail and insert it through the hole in the foam and insert it in your dremel, then use a medium speed and file the foam to the desired shape with your wifes emory board ( yet I take no responsibility for your well being if you do), I suggest buying some.

6. Thread wrap your hook and slide the popper on the hook and check the fit if it's ok take it off crazy glue the thread and slide the foam head on (Fast). If it needs more glue turn it up to where the glue will run down into the hole.

7.two coats of your color, then crazy glue the eyes on and add two coats of "Hard as Nails over the entire head (to seal it).

8.tie in the tail (I'll supply a link to the material I'm using) then tie in your Rooster Sadlle or what you prefer and wrap off.

9. This pattern has no legs because it is a minnow but you can take this in many directions , you can make sliders by simply turning the head around and the shapes are endless.

I'l put the links to the 6mm foam and tail material in the next post.

Here is the link to the tail material, you can use other material but this has really good action and is cheap.

I have some thinner foam, would the process still work?

Most certainly, when I make multi colored poppers I use the 2mm foam .This one was made with 2mm foam.
