Hey guys,

It's been a while since my last post. I haven't been out on the rivers much due to increased interest in saltwater fishing. Here is my latest trip to the marshes of just south and east of Houma, Louisiana. The water was muddy, the tide was up, and the wind was calm when I got out on the water. A few hours later the tide began to fall, so I headed to the grass flats that FishTaco was kind enough to show me. I saw plenty of reds as I was standing in my Ultimate 9.5. The fish were a little shy and spooky, and I managed to hook into 6 nice redfish on my flyrod. I only landed two. I will be back to the marsh this Friday (9-4-09) for another round.

Those LA redfish are SICK !!! I love the Hopedale and Venice areas. Next time I head down I'll give you a shout Barret. I'm shooting for sometime around Christmas. Ten pound LM one cast and fifteen pound red the next. Wooo Hooo !

Cole and Drew come down and try it! All of these fish were site-casted..what a rush! Smallies fight extra hard and live in some of the most beautiful water in the world. However, reds will rival a smallie's power, and the marsh can be stunning too. Stalking the fish gives a feeling like you're on a hunt and when you see that red cruising….wow, it's insane…I enjoy that proactive way to fish, and I bet you guys would too. The fall means cooler water and the big ole reds start to enter skinny water. Fall is my favorite, right in front of summer.

SH…I love those areas…heck most of the coast has great fishing too though. Definitely throw me a heads up when you come down next. I mostly fish in the Cocodrie/Chauvin area. Thankfully, it's often overlooked by folks seeking Grand Isle or Venice.

The marsh is massive and can be intimidating particularly for the kayaker. I just joined the Bayou Coast Kayaking Club, and they are a tremendous help when it comes to guiding where and how to fish the salt.

Barret, I have caught a couple of redfish on fly and it is a total rush. I am going to have to make a trip down with my kayak.
