This past Sunday I decided to take a break from dock building and hit the river. While I caught a nice assortment of fish, none were of any size. However, I still managed to get my hands on some nice fish……

Halfway

My buddy

Small largie

Redbreast

Swims with herpes

I'm not lipping that thing!

2-1 Smallie that measured 16″

I guess I could have smiled….posing with 2-1 smallie

Where are the big fish?!?!? Like I said earlier, I didn't hook into any big fish, but I did manage to get my hands on some. I watched the guy below fish while standing on top of a 12 foot head dam. He was standing on top of the dam and made casts down into the river. Next thing I know, his rod was doubled over. He tried working his rod one way and then the other. He must be hung, I thought. Finally, I watch him start to climb DOWN the head dam. I was thinking, man it's just a lure. Go ahead and break it off. No need to risk some broken bones over a few bucks. When he finally made it down, he reached down into the water and pulled up the biggest surprise of the day.

I paddled over and weighed it for him…..right at 7-0. Surprised me because he caught it right in the middle of some heavy current.

He left after catching this nice largie, but that wasn't the end of this guy's day. He came back a couple hours later and hooked into this 4-5 striper. Again, he was standing on top of the head dam.

I happily hopped over, unhooked, snapped a picture and released this nice striper so the guy didn't have to risk broken bones twice in one day. After all, he was putting on a big fish clinic!

This guy was on his own.

That's all folks!

You're right, he does! Well, he could be related to Griffin since Griffin is from Evans. That would explain his no fear attitude!

Great report, Brusier!

Ya never know what you will catch or see on the river. It's not just a job, but an adventure!

Bruiser- I have caught many large fish at the base of that dam over the years. If you paddle up to the base and look close you will see lots of "micro eddies". I have pulled several nice fish on back to back cast out of areas no bigger than a kiddie pool. Also, there are sub- surface eddies that you'll only find by sticking the nose of the boat in there and probing with your paddle. You will know what I mean when you find one.

CAUTION ! ...do not mess around up there at high water. In my younger days I ran that dam in my whitewater boat at flood and almost didn't live to tell about it.
