Ole Hooker, Doughboy and myself hit the river for a 2 hour wade. We took our favorite baits and the fish were cooperating quite well. All 3 generations landed a quality fish and had some tales about the big ones that got away.

White Pop-R's were the lures of choice this evening with one nice smallie being nabbed on the XRap and the cats fell for the Silver Buddy.

I got things started with about a 4lb striper who killed my Bass Pro Popper (for $1.99 these are the best bargains around). On my next cast I saw this fish flash out of the water and down on top of my lure. The drag was being ripped again and I thought I had another striper since I did not get a good look at it. I went down stream with the fiish just like the last one giving her ample time to wear down since I was on 8lb test. The fish never cleared water again. When I finally saw her I could not believe it was a 4lb 7oz beatiful smallie.

While I was getting photos Doughboy jumped in the run and on his first cast with the XRap jerkbait he landed this super 3-1 smallie on his light spinning rod with 8lb test.

Ole hooker then got into the mix catching some nice stripers. The biggest went 7-0. He also lost a really big one that hit his Pop-R and immediately ripper off about 50 ft of line. He had it on for a good while until it just shook free. Doughboy lost a couple good ones too that broke him off.

I did hang a couple cats and Doughboy landed one as well on the Silver Buddy.

Here was the final fish of the day, a nice largie that Doughboy caught on the way back out.

Dupre, this may be helpful.

Usually on fishing forums it is safe (and I mean very safe) to assume that if the person did not post the location of where their fish are caught that they do not want that info to be known. We encourage folks to leave specifics off of the public forums, especially when big fish or numbers of fish are caught to protect that fishery or that area out of respect for those that call that area their “home waters.”

If Moche is interested in letting you know then he will probably send you a PM, if not then you have to just do your best to get what info you can whenever a nugget or two cross your path and it definitely helps to attend a rodeo or get to know the members a little better and once you do you'll see that people tend to open up a little more about fishing locations. Most folks just don't open up to strangers about it.

Tonight I'll be in Columbia, SC speaking about river fishing in SC and sharing some stories from my Amazon trip. I won't be giving away any super specifics but I will certainly be able to share some more tips and great info that can increase the learning curve for you and get you headed in the right direction towards catching some nice river bass! For more info click here.

This is a good discussion to have because I am sure many new river bassers don't know all the “protocal” on river fishing websites. To see all the forum rules click here.
